What we’re about

Helpful Friends Network of SW Ohio –
Support and Social Events for the Herpes HSV-1 and -2 Community

What we're about:
Helpful Friends Network is a PRIVATE member-run social group for adults in Southwest Ohio (the Cincinnati and Dayton areas) and northern Kentucky. Our organization is for adults 30 and over who have been diagnosed with Herpes Simplex Virus Types 1 and/or 2 (HSV-1, HSV-2). We are also open to their partners. We serve those who may be interested in meeting, sharing their experiences and socializing with others without fear or stigma. It's good to share social encounters with those who face the same uncertainties and challenges of living and/or dating that you do.

Our community strives to not only be a social network for our members but also a group that promotes support and education rather than ignorance and shame. Helpful Friends Network is a Members-Only community. Therefore, information posted on our site will only be accessible to other members of this Meetup group. We welcome everyone 30 and above who is interested in making new friends, sharing fun monthly activities together, and meeting and interacting with others who share our surprisingly common situation.

While our group description is viewable to non-members, only people who carry genital herpes (HSV-1, HSV-2) viruses or their partners may join. Since this population of those with the virus includes 1 in 6 adult Americans, you know that you are not alone. Isn't it better to know that, even if you are non-symptomatic now, you are among people who share your concerns? Only approved members can view info about our monthly group “Talk-It-Over” discussions and fun social events and other content.

As you are well aware, herpes does not discriminate and neither do we. We welcome people from 30 to 100, all ethnicities, all professions, religions, political affiliations and outside interests. Whether you come as a single or a couple, are introverted or outgoing, we are here for you. We're a diverse and wonderful mix of people and we strive to make the most of it! Those who are new to this situation are especially welcome to the group. We make special efforts to introduce you to other friendly members so that you’ll feel right at home.

We are also a very discreet group. If you would not like for others to see this or other groups you are part of, you can hide your groups in your Meetup settings. This can be done by clicking on "My Groups" in the middle of your Meetup profile and choosing to hide your groups, making them private.

If you share our condition and situation, we urge you to join us! You are not alone!
