Zero to K8s Stack: Building Lightning-Fast Kubernetes Deployments with Pre-Configured OS Images
In this presentation, Dan will unveil his Packer project that transforms K3s cluster deployments from time-consuming operations into nearly instantaneous implementations.
The project leverages custom Rocky OS (RHEL family) images pre-configured with kickstart scripts and enhanced with HCL-managed components. These images come pre-loaded with all necessary binaries, scripts, manifests, and Docker images required for K3s operations and the full stack of the main application — eliminating download time during deployment.
Dan will demonstrate how his approach optimizes the underlying OS specifically for K3s workloads and enables the automatic deployment of the ConfidentialMind Stack with minimal user interaction. Attendees will learn how end users can spin up production-ready K3s clusters with their application on board with just a few simple commands to define the base domain and select optional components.
The presentation will also cover the challenges and solutions in achieving hypervisor compatibility across various platforms, providing valuable insights for anyone looking to streamline their Kubernetes deployments in resource-constrained or air-gapped environments.
