Beyond the Neon: AAPI Talent in Old Vegas

Details
#### Su Kim Chung and Tammi Kim from UNLV Special Collections and Archives will discuss their research on uncovering the hidden stories of these entertainers.
Our collective memory of classic Las Vegas entertainment often includes befeathered showgirls, Elvis, Liberace, and the Rat Pack. But, unknown to many, a plethora of AAPI entertainers also appeared on the Las Vegas Strip during the mid-century era. Production shows such as China Doll Revue, Holiday in Japan, and Geisha Rella were hugely popular, as well as lounge acts like the Kim Sisters, Sun Spots and Nalani Kele. Though largely forgotten today, these AAPI performers are part of the fabric of Las Vegas entertainment history.
Su Kim Chung and Tammi Kim from UNLV Special Collections and Archives will speak about their research project to uncover the voices and stories of these entertainers who have been hiding in plain sight.
