High Falls on the Tuckasegee; a Saunter

Details
We are the Sloth Hiking Group: “We will get there when we get there.”
John Muir didn’t like the word ‘hike’. “We ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them.”
I am going to Thurston Hatcher & High Falls on the W.Fork Tuckasegee R; Up to 16 of you are welcome to join me.
Distance: 5.0mi RT/ accum ascent 800 ft (most on the return); The trail is a gentle climb on a dirt trail with occasional roots and rocks. However, when we get to the falls there will be some climbing around automobile size boulders.
Wading in the river is optional.
Pace: 1.5mph – because I’m an ol’ Codger.
Lunch will be at the Falls.
Drive time: 1 hr/40 mi 1-way
Google Map = “High Falls North Trailhead”
Apprx return time: 3 pm
Carpool contributions appreciated. $4 suggested
Weather Check: Glenville, NC
Weather cancellations will be posted at 6:30am.
WAITLISTED PEOPLE WILL BE ADDED AS DRIVERS SIGN ON.
I currently have 3 driver(s) (14)
We suggest open windows while carpooling. Only you know your own health status so judge accordingly if an event may endanger your health or the health of others.
Please bring an extra pair of shoes to avoid bringing your muddy shoes into the driver's car at the end of the hike.
Incessant prattlers will be assumed to be having an affair. Obstreperous raucous yawping is discouraged.
THIS IS A DOG-PARTICIPANT HIKE. This event is NOT for those who are uncomfortable with the antics of fun-loving dogs. Well trained dogs (you don’t have to yell) can be 'off-leash'. 'On leash' during the lunch stop. Small (lap)dogs may carpool. Large dogs will drive themselves.
DESCRIPTION;
Remember - hikes led by ‘the Curmudgeon’ tend to have challenging surprises.
I will be carrying the ‘Ent-Ward’ that gives us permission to pass thru the forest.
High Falls is an 80 ft 2-tier waterfall. We can climb up to the 1st tier.
Thurston Hatcher is an 80 ft narrow steep-falling cascade. You can cross the river and there are steps that lead to the base of the waterfall where you have a great close-up view of it and a brass plaque dedicated to Thurston Hatcher.
All hikes are at your own risk. You are responsible for your OWN safety and adequate equipment.
Waiver: There are certain risks inherent in any outdoor activity. Each participant, by signing up to attend this event, agrees to release from liability the leader(s), Hendo Fun Friends, its Partners, Affiliates, and members for any accident, injury, illness, or personal loss which might occur while participating in this activity or while traveling in any vehicle during this trip.
