Many Lives of Carl Sandburg; a play
Details
John Quinley, author of the book, Discovering Carl Sandburg, and the print series, Letters from a Sandburg Docent, has made another way available for learning about the prolific life of Carl Sandburg—a reader’s theatre production, The Many Lives of Carl Sandburg.
The reader’s theatre production in one act runs for seventy minutes. Sandburg’s life story is told by six players who give narration, dramatic and humorous readings from his poetry and prose, and sing songs from Sandburg’s American Songbag. It all comes together in an informative, entertaining, and thought-provoking production.
The local non-profit Sandburg Players include director Karen Moore and cast members Eric Young, David Leader, Meredith Kuhn, CC Blackburn, Judi Ingram Adkins, Butch Adkins, and Lyn Morton.
The play was received with standing ovations at four venues this summer: Carolina Village, Treska’s at Highland Lake, UU Fellowship of Henderson, and Silvermont Senior Center.
Here are the performances for fall 2025 and winter 2026.
**Play information is updated at friendsofcarlsandburg.org.**
There was a time when nearly everyone knew the name Carl Sandburg, but few know him today.
Admission is free.
