3D Scanning intro class (using the Xbox 'Kinect' Scanner!)

Wednesday July 17th we will be hosting an 'intro to 3D Scanning' class from 6:30pm until about 8:30pm. During this class we will learn about the various 3D scanning techniques and actually do a few 3D scans (one demonstration will be scanning a volunteer from the class while they are in an 'action pose! That 3D model could then be used for 3D printing of an action figure or making a bobble head'). There is no need to bring any supplies, HexCorp Makerspace will provide refreshments. While you are here you will also be able to check out the other machinery and gadgets around our Makerspace.

Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Cost: $20

Includes:

• Our intro to 3D Scanning class (this class will focus on using the Xbox Kinect Scanner for scanning medium size objects and above)

• Certification to use our 3D scanning station

• A list of free online resources and info, along with software to manipulate and prepare your scan for 3D printing!

• Great networking opportunity with like-minded Makers

Once you are certified to use our 3D scanner: you will be able to reserve time in the future between 10am and 10pm on Wednesdays to come in and scan objects (soon we will be expanding our Makerspace hours). Please note that the Kinect 3D scanner can scan large objects or even a whole room, however, scanning a very small object would not yield high enough detail.. If your goal is to scan a very small part, a different type of 3D scanning sensor would be needed. We will be reviewing the various methods of 3D scanning and the pros/cons of each during our intro class!

For those who have already taken our intro class: please feel free to reserve machine time on our equipment between 10am to 10pm, if you are not yet comfortable on the machines we suggest you come in at 5:30pm or later so that we may assist you with any questions you may have.

Parking:

We have 3 parking spots directly in front of our HexCorp Makerspace front entrance/window (suite #303), a large private parking lot behind our building and also free street parking.
