Science is under attack in the U.S., but effective science communication can build public support for scientific research and science literacy. Come meet Kira Dineen at the Wilton Quaker Meetinghouse to hear her journey as one of the star science communicators on genetics in the country today.

Kira Dineen’s award-winning radio show and podcast “DNA Today” launched in 2012 when she was a senior in high school, has aired over 300 weekly episodes. The show educates audiences on genetic and public health topics through event coverage, news stories, book/movie reviews, and interviews. Episode topics have included paternity testing on NBC’s Maury Povich show, Down Syndrome Awareness with Glee actress Lauren Potter, Parkinson’s Disease with the Parkinson’s Foundation and more.

DNA Today won the People’s Choice awards in 2020, 2021 and 2022 for Best Science & Medicine Podcast. The podcast airs Fridays at 10:30 AM on the University of Connecticut’s radio station, WHUS 91.7 FM, and is available online https://dnapodcast.com.

Kira Dineen, MS, CGC, CG(ASCP)CM was selected and served as a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) Digital Ambassador program for three years. She received her Diagnostic Genetic Bachelor of Science degree at the UCONN.
