Getting SASSy with your website.

Details

The High Desert Web Developers group meets the first Tuesday of every month. This local group is a nice place for people to learn and talk about coding for the web. We talk about web development in general, covering all aspects from planning, design, development, and maintaining a web site. RSVP is not required and attendance is free. Tell all your friends!

What are we going to talk about?

Getting SASSy with your website.

Are you still writing CSS for your web pages? Well at least you're not still using tables for layout.... right? I've digress... there is this new thing out there called Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets, otherwise known as SASS (http://sass-lang.com/). If you're still writing CSS then you're probably writing way too many lines.

Sass is a meta-language on top of CSS that both provides a simpler, more elegant syntax for CSS and implements various features that are useful for creating manageable stylesheets.

This month Matthew Krick from ActiveLAMP (http://activelamp.com) is going to take us through how to setup SASS and it's companion Compass. You're not going to want to miss this presentation, he's going to talk about:

Where to get it. How to set it up (Requires Ruby on Rails). Why use SASS? Show examples of it in use. Nesting Variables Mixins Selector Inheritance And then he'll show SASS and Drupal with a walkthrough installing SASS and getting it running with the Drupal Omega Theme.

Community Time / Lightning Talks

We'll open up the floor to the community where anyone can talk about anything technology related. Do you have anything cool you want to share with the community this month? Share your knowledge!!!

Is there anything YOU want to share, too? The floor is open.

Where are we meeting?
