Mobilize your website for the web.

Details

The High Desert Web Developers group meets the first Tuesday of every month. This local group is a nice place for people to learn and talk about coding for the web. We talk about web development in general, covering all aspects from planning, design, development, and maintaining a web site. RSVP is not required and attendance is free. Tell all your friends!

What are we going to talk about?

Developing for mobile devices.

87 million U.S. mobile users subscribe to mobile Internet service. 73% of consumers report cell phones are their most used device. Are your websites mobile friendly? If you're still creating websites just for the desktop, you're not giving your users the best possible experience on the device they probably use more, their smart phone or tablet.

We had a request at the last meetup to talk about responsive design, and incorporating SASS for mobile as the main topic for the next meetup. Specifically, how activelamp.com was built responsive using SASS.

This month Tom Friedhof from ActiveLAMP (http://activelamp.com) will pop the hood on activelamp.com to give attendees a glimpse on how to create a responsive site with Drupal. He will briefly talk about grid systems, what they are, how they work, and how to implement a grid layout with Drupal, without writing single line of HTML or CSS, just a whole bunch of configuring through the Drupal user interface.

After that Matthew Krick, also from ActiveLAMP, will show how he made activelamp.com SASSy, using SASS and Compass. This will be a nice continuation of Matt's presentation from last month (https://www.meetup.com/High-Desert-Web-Developer-Meetup/events/70093092/), with real world examples.

To end off the presentations, Evan Jenkins from ActiveLAMP will introduce us to jQuery Mobile (http://jquerymobile.com/), and how http://mikethompson.com was built to detect a device, and switch to a theme built with jQuery Mobile if the device is a handheld.

We'll see two different methods for building mobile sites. You are not going to want to miss this meetup. Tell your friends!

Community Time / Lightning Talks

We'll open up the floor to the community where anyone can talk about anything technology related. Do you have anything cool you want to share with the community this month? Share your knowledge!!! Post your lightning talk in the comments.
