High-Tech Boxes is a small experimental meetup for people who want to better understand the Israeli high-tech market, practice public speaking in English, and exchange useful information face-to-face.
You don’t need to work in tech. You don’t need to be an expert. What matters is curiosity, openness to new people and ideas, and willingness to participate.
How it works
We start with 10 minutes of preparation.
Each participant chooses a topic connected to Israeli high-tech — or to a global technology trend that is relevant to Israel. It can be something you already know about or something you want to investigate.
Use ChatGPT and the internet to quickly research your topic and prepare a short presentation.
Instead of slides, you’ll get a large piece of cardboard from an unfolded food box. Write your main points, numbers, diagrams or explanations on it.
Then everyone gives a 3-minute presentation in English, followed by a couple of questions.
Don’t worry if your English isn’t perfect. You can use ChatGPT to help write your presentation and you can read from your prepared text.
Second half: Debate
We’ll divide into two groups and debate one question related to entering Israeli high-tech.
For our first meeting:
If your goal is to enter Israeli high-tech, should you take a physically demanding low-skilled job while continuing to pursue tech — or avoid it and focus your time and energy on breaking into high-tech?
You can speak for up to 3 minutes at a time.
And you are allowed to change sides.
If someone on the other side makes a convincing argument, simply move to their side of the room. From that moment, you can start arguing for your new position.
The goal isn’t to stubbornly defend your original opinion. It’s to make good arguments, listen, and be willing to change your mind.
Who is it for?
People interested in Israeli high-tech, including those who are not currently working in the industry.
No professional background is required. You may have completed a tech course, be considering a career change, be looking for your first opportunity, or simply be strongly interested in technology and the Israeli market.
What to bring
Cardboard for presentations will be provided.
If you want to make your presentation more visual, feel free to bring large markers.
You can also bring fruit, Bamba, popcorn or another simple snack to share. Completely optional.
Participation is free, but registration is required.
This is the first pilot meeting and the group is intentionally very small: 5 participants. The format may evolve as we learn what works.
