I’m posting this as a concerned Highgrove resident who wants to make sure our community knows what’s happening with RTA Route 14.
Route 14 drives right past the Norton Younglove Community Center and Highgrove Park every day… but it does not stop.
The nearest stop is over 1,000 feet away, which is already difficult for seniors, families, and neighbors with mobility challenges.
But the bigger issue is this:
The “Center & Michigan” and “Center & Mt. Vernon” stops are not actually at those intersections. Because of where they’re really placed, there is a 2,800‑foot gap between them — a stretch that completely cuts off the community center, the park, and the food programs from public transit access.
This isn’t just inconvenient. It contradicts RTA’s own equity and accessibility policies and raises serious Title VI civil rights concerns.
This gap affects the whole neighborhood — it limits the community center’s ability to grow programs, impacts park safety (“eyes on the street”), and isolates people who depend on transit to stay connected.
RTA is coming on‑site to hear from the community: 📅 Monday, May 4 🕙 10:00 AM 📍 Norton Younglove Community Center — 459 Center St, Highgrove
If this affects you or someone you care about, please consider attending. A strong turnout shows that Highgrove deserves equitable, accessible transit.
