Evening Stroll in Mount Pleasant

Details

Hi friends,

This evening we'll take a short stroll through Toronto's most historic (and arguably most beautiful and interesting) cemetery. The cemetery is uniquely designed, following the style of old-fashioned rural cemeteries (as it largely was when it first opened in 1876), with quite a variety of memorials and spaces, as opposed to the regular rows that are seen in most cemeteries today.

The flowers are in full bloom when walking here during June, and the shaded paths are very pleasant during the summer season. Take in both history and nature while getting in a little exercise.

Meeting point: just inside the cemetery Yonge St. entrance (this is about 2 blocks or so north of St. Clair station (see the map)). This is NOT the Northern entrance closer to Davisville station. Please use the google map point shown!

We will meet just inside this entrance where there is a bench and a sign (it is nearly impossible to miss us as you will see a group of people standing/sitting- there are no other crowds here)).

Walk and timing: We will probably start walking about 10-15 minutes after the meeting time. We will take a broad loop through the cemetery (which is actually so huge that we are unlikely to see the whole thing), and will return to the starting point again at the meetup ending time. There are restrooms at one stopping point during the walk.

If you are new to the meetup or have not yet paid for 2025, please kindly e-transfer $10 to hsptorontomeetup@gmail.com. Many thanks for your support and helping to cover the organizer fees.

Look forward to seeing you! :)
