Join Dr. Frederick Gertz for an accessible journey from tabletop quantum experiments to cutting-edge research in magnonic holographic computing. Starting with a hands-on demonstration, he will show how the principles of interference and superposition can be visualized in everyday materials. The talk then explores how these same wave-based ideas extend into magnetics, inspired his doctoral work at UC Riverside on Magnonic Holographic Devices—nano- and micro-scale systems that use spin waves to perform computation and memory tasks. Dr. Gertz will discuss how these devices parallel and diverge from quantum computing concepts, highlight recent advances in the field, and share how quantum-inspired ideas continue to shape emerging technologies today.

Bio: Frederick Gertz holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (University of California, Riverside) where his dissertation, Magnonic Holographic Devices, explored spin-wave interference for computing and memory functions. His research culminated in memory devices that were selected as a 2014 runner-up for Physics Breakthrough of the Year by Physics World. He is Founder & CEO of Collide Technology, an enterprise AI/optimization company, and now brings together his deep physics and engineering background to innovate at the intersection of ***swarm intelligence (***bio-inspired algorithms that explore the collective intelligence of natural systems as seen in insects) and applied optimization.
