Cold springs gush forth from the great mountains of the Columbia River Gorge. From those springs, crystal clear streams of water swan dive from basalt cliffs in such spectacular fashion that they draw crowds from all over the world. A dazzling array of waterfalls are hidden in the hills of the Gorge. We're going to pull back the curtain on three of these shimmering beauties.
As you stride down a single switchback, and cross a gurgling creek, feel your heart rate increase as the sound of falling water fills the air.
Nestled into an idyllic hillside, an elegant veil of water silkily streams out into a rippling pool of water below. From a giant boulder near the base of Bridal Veil Falls, you can reach out and nearly touch this ethereal beauty.
After playfully pawing at the veil, the promise of two additional waterfalls calls your name. A short 5 minute drive down the Historic Columbia River Highway will take you to one of the prettiest waterfalls in the Waterfall Corridor.
Near the trailhead, the majestic Latourell Falls can be seen from a distance plunging 220 feet from the top of the wildest display of columnar basalt in the Gorge. We'll circle back around for a more intimate view of Latourell after a visit to Upper Latourell Falls.
After a steady ascent into a lush green forest, the trail levels out, and the two-tiered Upper Latourell Falls comes into view. Slowly cross a nearby footbridge, and observe the emerald green moss climbing the wall of columnar basalt behind this lovely waterfall.
The path down to the promised intimate view of Latourell Falls passes a wishbone tree, and a couple views across the Columbia River, before looping around to a magnificent view of the waterfall in all her splendor. When you feel the spray, close your eyes, let go, and receive Latourell as she opens her arms to you, and leaves you drenched in a shower of her one thousand sweet wet kisses.
