I acquired a permit for 4 to do the Meysan Lakes Trail in the Eastern Sierras. This is a fairly strenuous hike with about 3,000' of elevation gain over 5 miles. But the payoff is worth it as you'll be hiking and camping near beautiful, pristine alpine lakes.

The Plan:
Leave LV on Friday afternoon and drive to Lone Pine, CA to crash for the night at Alabama Hills dispersed camping. Saturday morning we can have breakfast in Lone Pine and then drive to the TH and hike up to the lakes. Find a good campsite and enjoy a wonderful evening in the magnificent Sierra Nevada mountains.
Sunday we'll hike out and drive home.
You'll need:
Backpacking gear - see here for a full list, but here's a short one:
Tent, sleeping bag and pad, pillow, headlamp, stove, pot, utensils, bear bag or cannister, toiletries, water purification system, food (1 breakfast, 2 lunches, 1 dinner) and of course a backpack.
Weather - should be warm in the day (80s) and cool at night. Probably down in the 40s. Dress accordingly and always bring rain gear when on a mountain anywhere.
Water should be plentiful no need to carry extra. I use a Steri-Pen when hiking the Sierras.
Bears (and other critters) - you must either use a bear cannister or bear bag and hang your food. I use an Ursak and hang my food.
