Death Valley - Corkscrew Peak Level 4 - Mesquite Sand Dunes Level 1
Details
I'm adding Badwater Basin after we checkin at the campground, if there is still water.
We will meet at 6am at Santa Fe Casino usual spot ( Level 2 Self Parking). We can carpool to Death Valley to start with Corkscrew Peak. This is a very interesting peak. It starts by traveling across the desert before we make a hard left turn to start climbing through the cliff bands to reach this summit. The first time I completed this peak I was 3 months post back surgery; therefore, it took me 7 hous to go 7 miles. I hope to redeem myself and cut off at least an hour of hiking. No promises because there is 3,100 feet of elevation gain in 3.5 miles, really in 2 miles. There is a lot of scree through the cliff bands. I suggest poles.
Please text me regarding accommodation plans near Stovepipe.
We will meet early (time to be determined) to catch the sunrise at Mesquite Sand Dunes. I've done a sunrise hike at these Dunes before. It will probably take us at least an hour of sand dunes hiking to get into place to see the sunrise.
We can return to the agreed meeting location to enjoy a potluck breakfast before we head out for the final adventure.
I thought about Scotty Castle tours, but they are already booked for 2026. I thought about Ubehede Crater, but the road looks closed. So, let's stop at Ryolyte to enjoy a little bit of history. I love the bottle house.
Challenges bring rewards. Two hikes, two chips. Group fun!!! Good Food!!!
