Do this walk because - it sweeps you through forest film‑sets, lakeside lunch spots, and the haunting ruins of Waverley Abbey in one glorious 12‑mile Surrey adventure

We're doing this hike with Variety is the Spice Meetup group. Rob P will lead the walk.

Walk facts
Distance: Approximately 12 miles / 19km
Duration: Walking time circa 6 hours.
Grade: Moderate. We will maintain a steady pace over varied surfaces. There are some hills with a total ascent of 957ft / 292m.
Donation to GOSH: £5 cash on the day.
What to take: A packed lunch and plenty of water.
Also, we're not insured, so please have your own insurance for this type of activity.

Walk description
A 12-mile circular walk deep in the Surrey countryside with varied terrain. In the morning we''ll walk through Bourne Woods, frequently used as a film location. Our lunch stop is beside a beautiful lake, and later we briefly visit the historic ruins of Waverley Abbey (free entry).
Terrain
Country paths, woodland, heathland and riverside with a small amount of road walking. Several moderate hills in the morning, mostly flat in the afternoon. Probably some mud, though not extreme.
Lunch stop
A lakeside kiosk café with toilet facilities (limited menu, outdoor picnic tables). Advisable to bring picnic lunch.
End of walk
Optional drinks at the Mulberry pub just outside the station.

Meeting at
Farnham Railway Station at 11.00am. We will be outside the station exit from Platform 2 (the arrival platform for trains from London).
We will leave at 11.05am.

Travel
By train
The walk starts and finishes at Farnham railway station.
Suggested train from London Waterloo 09.56 (Clapham Jct 10.03, Woking 10.30) arrives Farnham at 10.55.

From Waterloo, a day return is £24.40 but with Groupsave or a Network Railcard, it's £16.25 (times and prices as of 16/4).

By car
Saturday all day parking at the station is £4.60.
There may be the possibility of free roadside parking on the roads to the south east of the station (up the hill), although this has not been researched.
