About the Hike
Join us for a Sunday adventure to explore the otherworldly landscapes of Umatilla Rock Trail at Sun Lakes–Dry Falls State Park — a striking geological wonder shaped by Ice Age floods. Expect dramatic basalt cliffs, desert plateaus, and expansive views of the ancient coulees.
This easy hike offers a unique change of scenery from alpine trails — trading larches for sagebrush and open desert skies. It’s the perfect off-season escape to enjoy crisp air, sunshine, and great company.

Itinerary
6:30 AM – Meet at Wilburton Park & Ride, Bellevue – organize carpools
6:45 AM – Depart Bellevue
10:00 AM – Arrive at Umatilla Rock Trailhead – begin hike
1:00 PM – Finish hike, explore Dry Falls viewpoint, relax and take photos
2:30 PM – Depart trailhead
5:00 PM – Dinner stop in Ellensburg (optional group meal 🍽️)
7:30 PM – Return to Bellevue
What to Bring
- Hiking boots or sturdy trail shoes (desert terrain can be rocky)
- Warm layers (morning chill, afternoon sun)
- Trekking Poles (recommended)
- Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
- Snacks, lunch, and at least 2L of water
- Windbreaker or light jacket
- Camera for the desert vistas 📸
- Small towel or wipes (dusty conditions)

Cost & Logistics
$30 per person to support carpool gas and trip coordination.
Please bring cash or Venmo for your driver at the start of the trip.
We’ll organize carpools at Wilburton Park & Ride to make travel smooth and efficient.
