Winter trek on the Wildcat Range

Details

Join us for a challenging winter trek on the Wildcat Range. This strenuous hike of ~8 miles and ~3200 ft elevation gain summits two of the NH 48 4000 footers. Although much of the route is below tree-line, there are several opportunities for spectacular views of Mt Washington and the northern Presidentials along the way. .

This is a strenuous hike and participants need to be in good shape. Recent winter hiking experience of similar mileage, terrain and elevation are required. Depending on the condition of the trail, and the weather, we expect that the hike will take between 7-9 hours. Full winter gear, including mountaineering snowshoes and microspikes is required.

Due to hiking restrictions at the Wildcat Mountain ski resort, we may need to wait for an extended amount of time before beginning our decent from the ridge, and may end up finishing the hike in the dark. All participants should be prepared to stay warm while stopped for 30+ minutes and hike out with headlamps.

Potential participants must register online here and a trip leader will be in touch to discuss their equipment and prior hiking experience. Information on meeting time and place will be shared with confirmed participants approximately a week before the hike
