Details
Last chance for a winter 4000'? Weather permitting!
Registration is required: please sign up on the AMC website here.
Whether you are looking for your first winter 4000', or completing your NH 48, or just enjoy being in the mountains in the winter, join us for a full day snowshoe in the Kinsman Range of the White Mountains, with an out-and-back route of about 10+ miles with approximately 3,600' elevation gain. Our goal is to summit two 4000-footers, North Kinsman (4,293') and South Kinsman (4,358').
Weather permitting we should have great views of Canon, the Lincoln-Lafayette ridge and beyond.
We will hike at a moderate pace with brief breaks for food, water and views. This hike is intended to be a good introduction to winter 4000'ers, and you should
- Have experience snowshoeing with a pack
- Hiking 4000'ers above the tree-line
- Have the fitness to snowshoe 10+ miles and ascend 4000+ feet (and descend).
- Have appropriate winter clothing and gear
Participants should plan on at least a 7.5+ hour day. This trail is relatively steep and has brief above-tree-line exposure in places. We can anticipate full winter conditions, so previous winter hiking experience is required to participate. This trip is suitable for those with recent similar experience and/or demonstrated proficiency, such as being active in sports or often (regular) engagement in vigorous physical activity.
To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
