Join us to experience the Red River Gorge's natural beauty, from towering arches to breathtaking ridge views. Get a great, moderately challenging workout immersed in one of Kentucky's most cherished landscapes, including Double Arch, Courthouse Rock, Haystack Rock, and Auxier Ridge.
This trail is great for those who love geology, as there are incredible rock formations to admire throughout the hike There are several big climbs and long descents, so be ready to work your lungs. The incredible views are well worth the effort!
MEETING SPOT:
We will meet at the AUXIER RIDGE TRAILHEAD parking lot. If there is a shortage of parking spots, we will shuttle some cars down to a nearby lot between 1:20 and the 1:30 hike start time.
Trail Highlights:
- Double Arch: A unique sandstone arch that provides a window to the gorge's expansive beauty. The arch's structure and the surrounding scenery make it a must-see landmark.
- Courthouse Rock: A prominent sandstone formation that stands as a testament to the area's geological history. This massive rock offers impressive views and is a popular spot for photography.
- Auxier Ridge: The Auxier Ridge Trail, provides stunning views of surrounding ridges and valleys. The narrow ridgeline offers panoramic vistas, making it a favorite among hikers.
The distance for this route is approximately 6.3 miles with a total elevation gain of 1066 feet, but may vary based on slight trail variations. We are estimating a 5:45 end time based on a hike duration of 4-4.5 hours.
