A couple weeks ago I almost got unalived in Joshua Tree, now I'm back for more.
The weather will be cool on Sunday (a high of 60F), so let's do this DPS peak that's 11 miles RT with 2500'+ of gain and involves some scrambling. While others mention route finding difficulties and I really dislike those, this is a ridge hike so hopefully we should be able to get a general idea of where we're going unlike my Eagle Mountain trip.
Read this and look at the photos very carefully. Also read the comments here. As with the Eagle, the stats are moderate but I expect the hike to be tres difficile.
We'll meet at the 10 freeway and Cottonwood Springs Road so everyone will have a signal. Then, it's I guess about 30-45 minutes to the trailhead. No NPS pass should be needed, but I have one if it is.
You will need to be prepared for this. That means enough clothing to deal with cold temperatures, at least one headlamp, extra food and extra water, and the other Ten Essentials.
And, due to past no-shows, I'll consider you a no-show if you just sign up without also leaving a comment. Make sure your Meetup notifications are turned on.
