This is a strenuous training hike for the Grand Canyon. We'll hike to Mt Wilson, but we'll do it "upside-down": we'll park at Mt Wilson, hike down to Chantry Flats, and then hike back up to Mt Wilson. About 11.5 miles and 4300' of gain, 4k' of which is on the return.

A few weeks ago I did something similar but I stopped at Sturtevant Falls, this time we'll head down to... the parking lot at Chantry Flats. Then, we'll head back to... the parking lot at Mt Wilson. However, the in-between parts are OK. There was one minor part where I needed to step through a downed tree and a couple places where I needed to limbo under trees, but it wasn't that hard.

Expect to finish after dark. You must bring at least one headlamp and warm clothing (a puffer + gloves + ski cap or similar). And, make sure to bring rain gear just in case.

We'll hike at a moderate pace and we'll stick together as a group. If you're trying to set a FKT you'll have to do that on your own.

We'll meet at Milmada and Flanders in La Crescenta, then caravan to Mt Wilson. You can get out of their lot after 5pm even if the gate is closed. You will, however, need an adventure pass for your dashboard or, even better, a yearly NPS pass.

If there's rain in the forecast or too much snow at top when we get there, we'll find something else.
