Trail Description:

  1. Start at Tai Shui Tseng:
  • The trail begins at Tai Shui Tseng, a peaceful village that sets the tone for the hike with its serene surroundings. The initial part of the trail is a steady climb, surrounded by lush greenery.
  1. Forests and Ascents:
  • The trail meanders through dense forests, providing a cool and shaded path. As you progress, the climb becomes steeper, with rocky terrain underfoot. This is a good point to pace yourself and enjoy the natural beauty around you.
  1. Reaching Shek Lung Kung:
  • Approximately halfway through Section 4, you'll reach Shek Lung Kung. This is an excellent spot for a short break, offering panoramic views of the surrounding hills and the urban skyline in the distance. It's a great place to catch your breath and prepare for the challenging ascent ahead.
  1. Climb to Ma On Shan:
  • The highlight of this hike is the ascent to Ma On Shan. The path here is steep and can be demanding, but the effort is well worth it. As you climb higher, you'll start to see glimpses of the spectacular views awaiting you at the summit. The trail is rocky and can be narrow in places, so proceed with caution.
  1. Summit of Ma On Shan:
  • At the peak of Ma On Shan, you'll be greeted with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama. From Tolo Harbour to Sai Kung and the distant islands, the views are simply stunning. This is the perfect spot for photos and a well-deserved rest. The sense of achievement and the natural beauty make this a memorable part of the hike.
  1. Descending Back to Maclehose Trail:
  • The descent from Ma On Shan can be tricky with loose gravel and steep sections. Take your time and ensure you have a firm footing. You'll eventually reconnect with Maclehose Trail Section 4.
  1. Continuation to Tai Shui Tseng:
  • The trail continues with a mixture of open grasslands and forested areas. The descent becomes gentler, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery without too much effort. You'll loop back to your starting point at Tai Shui Tseng, completing an exhilarating and rewarding hike.
