What we're about

Nature and fitness unite! Founded on Jan 2, 2013, Hikercising Victoria and Beyond are a dynamic group of hikers interested in hiking for exercise, fresh air, and fabulous scenery. We go most every weekend averaging 8-20kms per hike, either one big hike or loops of smaller treks, which are at a moderate to fast pace with a trail-running option as well. We occasionally travel up island for day trips, some overnight camping trips, cycling trips, etc. We are always open to trying new things, such as climbing, sky-diving, caving, snowshoeing, skiing, etc. when it comes to being active outside. Unless otherwise posted on a specific trip, dogs are always welcome! If you're up for the challenge, lets meet up!

Intro to trail running! 🏃🏃🏃

Thetis Lake

Join Hikercisers at Thetis Lake for an easy, steady paced (approx.) 5km trail run.

We meet near parking meter in main lot.

Q: What is an "easy" pace?
A: It's whatever pace you are comfortable with, don't worry about what everyone else is doing. It's important that you try not to stop the entire run. If you need to slow down, do it...but do NOT stop running!

If you've never run 5km on trail, without stopping... here are somethings to keep in mind:

Listen to your body and your breathe as you run, keep it calm. Try and stay relaxed. A good tool to measure your comfort level is to carry a conversation with someone. If you can do that, you're in a good place.

You should be starting slow, finding a rhythm with your feet and breathe, and preparing yourself mentally for upcoming hills etc.

Your goal with this run should be to hold a consistent pace the entire distance.

*IF YOU'RE SLOW, OR JUST GETTING STARTED:*

If you fall behind, don't worry about it. Just focus on what you are doing. This is not a competition, and you are working on your own goals here. We'll circle back and join you... and be happy to do so.

*IF YOU'RE SOME KIND OF BAD ASS RUNNER:*

If you know you're going to be faster than the rest of the group, have experience, and are just looking for a group to run with... please don't start fast. This run is intended for beginners.

We're going to try and finish at the same time, so prepare yourself to run 5km x 2. We will be circling back after 1-200 meters each time so you're going to want to keep it slow. No stopping, or running ahead. This is a group activity. Keep it cool. Enjoy the park and people in our group. Be humble about your badassness.

run plateaux peak to castle peak loup

Sooke Hills Wilderness Regional Park

We will meet at the Sooke Hill Wilderness Parc parking lot for 9:30. This is an 11 km loup on single track. Bring enough water for at least 2 hours and something to eat. We will run when it is mostly flat, light up hill and down but when we will get the elevation it will be hiking.
