The Piney Branch Trail is a moderate in-and-out hike leading to three-tiered falls. It's 6.8 miles, with a gradual elevation change of about 1100 feet. Winter is a beautiful time to hike this trail because we'll see so much more of the mountain. The 25-foot falls flow over a mossy rock into a deep and wide pool. The trailhead is 9.4 miles North of Thornton Gap. We may have some snow and ice on the trail, so bring crampons if you have them.
