Saunders-Monticello Trail
Details
We've had weather challenges for hiking so far this winter! Let's try this. The Saunders-Monticello Trail has been closed for a few weeks due to snow/ice coverage. Let's hope the warmer weather now will open it up for us. As a backup, we'll hike the Licking Hole Basin trail in Crozet. (Stay tuned)
With native hardwood forest, deep ravines, and spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Saunders-Monticello Trail winds its way toward Monticello and back. We will meet in the parking lot, near the trail entrance, for an easy 4.5-mile round-trip hike to Monticello's Visitor Center and back. If the entrance gate to the Visitor Center is closed, it will be a 4-mile hike.
If you are running late or need to cancel last minute, please call or text Paul at 703-307-7652, so that we don't wait for you. NOTE: Parking is in the main lot on Hwy 20, not the small upper parking area off Hwy. 53.
