Rocca Sparviera
Details
Hello everyone ! This Sunday, let's hike up to the atmospheric deserted village of Rocca Sparviera. It's an aller-retour of around 10 km with 600 m of climb and, if the weather is clear, we'll have spectacular views from the top.
Rocca Sparviera was a thriving village in medieval times and was inhabited until 1723, when the spring supplying it with water dried up. Legend has it that a curse was put on the place by Queen Jeanne in 1348 !
We'll set off from the village of Coaraze, which is well worth a visit itself. It is one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France and has a remarkable collection of artistic sundials on its buildings, including one by Jean Cocteau.
You'll need usual winter mountain gear, including a warm hat, gloves and a windproof top, as well as a picnic and enough water to drink. There are some steep and slippery sections along the trail, so good shoes and sticks are essential.
As usual, car sharing requests and offers can be made in the comments section.
