A Unique Grand Tour of Mt.Tamalpais

Details

Pack a lunch or bring take-out. We can dine right in the middle of the photo above for lunch. (Tops)
By the end of June Mt.Tam is hotter than ever. I find that the sun is just roasting. And I really wilt in higher temps. So I've planned a, "Grand Tour of Mt.Tam" to beat the heat.
The tour will be a combination of driving to seven of the grandest spots, POIs or fun places. (See the list below.) With a short walk/hike at each stop.

The idea is that I will drive the lead car and other cars will follow me. Our starting point will be the Trojan Pt. parking lot. ***(See aerial view above.)***The other Grand Tour locations are:

  • Rock Spring Trailhead
  • Laurel Dell Gate (If it's not too hot, we'll hike down to find Leopard Lillies.)
  • The intersection of McKennan Gulch Trail and West Ridgecrest Blvd.
  • The intersection of Bolinas-Fairfax Rd. & West Ridgecrest Blvd.
  • Mountain Theater
  • East Peak, (This is one of the hottest places in the summer on Mt.Tam. I call it the Walnut Creek of Marin County.)
  • The intersection of Sierra Trail and Panoramic Hwy., (We'll locate where the Huckleberries are.)

No unannounced attendees please. No dogs.
For an almost a complete list of the Mt.Tamalpais Trailheads (18) the 19th, #3 Trojan Pt. Parking lot, was left out in a dispute with the supervising ranger at the time. Here's the link to my list. The ranger contended there were no official state Park trails connecting with the Trojan Pt. parking lot. The rangers were too busy creating mountain biking trails all over the place then to make the Sunset Trail, which starts at the Trojan Pt. parking lot an official trail, after it being there for over fifty years.
