Mt.Tamalpais-3-4 mile Hike & a Great Picnic Spot

Details

I've changed the start/meeting time to 9:30am. The weather is heating up, an earlier start will allow some lower temps.
I've planned this one to be a sort of day-off and a time to just fully relax and enjoy one of the most beautiful places.
I can't hike in the heat. San Francisco walks are ideal for me in the summertime.
But with favorable conditions I've found a location around Mt.Tam where the combination of Pacific Ocean breezes and forest shade combine to make conditions possible for summertime hiking.
Join for a 3.0 to four mile hike with mild hills and ups and downs. Not a loop hike today, out and back. For those who love exercise hikes this one won't do it for you.
Footing is typical with ruts, roots and other obstructions. If you haven't been walking at least 1.25 miles a day then you'll need to start a walking program before attempting this.
You must pack a lunch or bring take-out. A bottle or two of water. Hat and use sunscreen, the strong sun we now get is disastrous on skin. Dress to keep cool. Wearing inappropriate footwear on these rugged trails and fire roads is asking for a sprained ankle. Don't risk it.
I've found a spectacular view, shaded spot, (see photos) on the start of the return drive to relax and eat lunch. Be sure to join me if you'd like to do that, it's the highlight of the day..
As far as directions, in addition to GPS when you are close, look to the left or east side of the road for a large, rust colored iron gate and a wide pull-off with room for about 15 cars.
Some GPS directions may route on Bolinas-Fairfax Rd. This is about ten miles of no more then 20mph road. From 101 that route will take almost an hour. Normally just getting off 101 and taking Panoramic Hwy.etc takes about thirty-five minutes. So leave more time then you think at first glance.
We are not going to stand around in the hot sun waiting for late comers.
If you are late you will miss the hike.
