What we're about

Easy hikes that start at a reasonable hour, as well as more challenging ones, are on our agenda. Come take your sensible shoes on a hike! We are bisexual-inclusive, trans-inclusive, non-ageist and geared towards self-identified lesbians age 18 and over. : ) We are relaxed and go with the flow. We don't take ourselves too seriously. Nature and women's community can be an antidote to the stress and busy-ness of many of our daily lives. Being outdoors can be relaxing and healing.

Please organize hikes and write to the group to provide the necessary information: date, start time, likely end time, meeting location and parking information, name(s) and brief description of the trail(s), distance, altitude gain, difficulty level, and what to bring. Leaders can decide whether dogs are allowed and must carry detailed maps of the route (please do not rely on cell phones). Leaders can coordinate car pooling if they wish.

This group will be as active as each of you make it.

Basic guidelines: You are responsible for your own safety at all our events. Transportation fees are your responsibility plus requested $1 fee per event to cover Meetup costs ($90/6 months). No smoking at any of our events, please.

This group is for fun not profit. Hikes & Dykes NYC is not affiliated with any organization, group or sponsor. Please note: the organizers of our activities are not trained hike leader as you would find in an organized official hiking club such as the AMC or Sierra Club: this is an informal peer-run group and you are always responsible for your own safety. Make sure you preview the hike distance, location and terrain info that is available on the internet; bring plenty of water and snacks; and dress appropriately with appropriate footwear.

Our photo policy is: no photos of group members at events posted on meetup (but landscape photos are ok); this avoids having to obtain photo permissions.
