What we’re about
Howdy. MJ here. I'm a Chicago fella now +22yrs in Sydneytown living in the CBD (Central Business District)... NOBODY knows Sydney better than I do, cause she's my girl / my lover... Cool bars. Amazing hikes. Great places to eat. Yup. I know it and love it all. We don't "just hike", and we don't "just get drinks" - we curate cool, fun, and memorable days. If you hear yourself saying...
"I fancy time in Mother Nature exploring beautiful hikes / walks in Sydney while meeting unique people. I want to check out some new bars and hydrate myself with a wine, beer or cocktail at the finale."
Welcome to the group. Let's have some fun. See you soon! MJ
We’re a super fun hiking group, but there are a few ways to get nudged out of the group or an event:
a) “No shows” on the day. Honour your RSVP! It’s about manners;
b) Excessive cancelling your RSVP. Commit, then show up – people want to hike with you;
c) Misrepresenting your health & fitness. It’s a safety issue that affects me, you, and all other hikers;
d) Attending social events when you’re not a hiker. We connect in Mother Nature, and sometimes we do cheeky / fun events. Get to know us while hiking; and
e) Unkindness to fellow hikers. You won’t gel with everybody (which is fine), but if I keep hearing about “Person X”, well… they will be shown the door.
(The leader of "We Hike... to the Bar" is an experienced walker / hiker but he is not a professional hiker [less "Bear Grylls" and more "Beer Grills"], and he does not hold himself to be a professional. Whilst it is his intention to run each event at the highest possible safety standards ultimately the responsibility for your safety and well being will at all times be up to you. Pack wisely - sunscreen, water, First-Aid supplies, etc... When you RSVP for an event, you declare you are fit, healthy, and able to hike that event. When you RSVP for an event with "We Hike... to the Bar" you are automatically agreeing to indemnify the organiser from any liability for yourself and/or your possessions. Hiking is an inherently risky activity and you participate at your own risk.)

La-Perouse-Frenchy-Beautiful-11kms-Coastal-Hike! With Lunch & Beers!
Cann Park, La Perouse, Anzac Parade, La Perouse, Sydney, AULa Perouse... the French history. The stunning beaches. The nude beach. The bush walk. The cliff face views... This one is a stunner. On our last hike here, we came upon Cruwee Beach, and my goodness - it was the nicest of the unknown beaches that I've ever seen in Sydney. We stopped for a dip, and we'll do it again on this hike. Let's gooooooo.
There's numerous ways to get there, so please use your travel app wisely - I'll be on the 390x bus. If you're driving, the hike is loop back to your car(s). Our hike starts at 950am sharp at Cann Park. You’ll see me in my white Nike hat, and off we go.
Join our WHATSAPP group HERE.
THE HIGHLIGHTS:
a) Congwong Beach… beautiful.
b) Little Congwong Beach… clothing optional. We’ll stop for a quick perve(?) then carry on.
c) Henry’s Head Lookout. Gorgeous views overlooking Captain Cook’s Landing Point in 1770.
d) Cape Banks. Boardwalk. Natural rocks. Lovely sea views.
e) Cruwee Beach. Stunning. A National Park with a beach this beautiful must be seen.
f) At Jolong Rocks we’ll loop back and enjoy the views heading in the opposite direction.
THE DETAILS:
a) Don’t be late (if you’re driving there’s free parking) & honour your RSVP. No shows end up banned.
b) Bring water. Towel. Snacks… all that stuff.
c) $10 cash, PayID.
d) Be cool. Be kind. Be healthy (definitely some inclines, so be fit to handle it). Be fun!
e) Timing. Unsure. The hike is 11kms, so I’m guessing 3hrs… then to the (optional) bar.
f) The pub after? Stay tuned (I'll edit this when I know - perhaps The DOG in Randwick or Charing Cross Hotel). I think we’ll have enough sun by then, so I’ll find a joint with good food, air con, and a good spot for us to share some laughs and stories about our holiday period.
See you soon for another beauty. MJ22 attendees
THE “WOW, HOLY SHIT! AMAZING!” HIKE OF 2025 – in 11kms it has it all + Beers!
Berowra Station, Pacific Hwy, Berowra, AUSweeping views over Berowra & Kuring-gai Chase National Park at Naa Badu Lookout… wildlife… multiple river crossings… Valley of the Winds. We won’t see many hikers. We will be challenged. And the tired faces with a “Cheers” / cold beer in hand will be 110% worth the journey. This 10.8kms hike is the tits.
THE HIKE. Berowra Station to Mt Kuring-gai Station.
You don’t need to read about great movies – you just need to watch ‘em. This event is the same, so it’s fewer words here. Trust me - just bring good hiking energy, and grab my arm. Most hikers have done the Mt Kuring-gai to Berowra on the East side. Sure, it's nice... but this one? It's so, so much better.
We’re going to hike from Berowra Station to Mt Kuringai Station this time because Berowra Club is more suitable for frowns and funerals than it is for our business – I’m tired of that dreary joint with no music and no smiles. Also, I want to see this hike from the opposite direction. When we finish, let’s jump on the train and head to the Pymble Hotel. I’ve never been there, and I’m keen to try something new. I’m also open to your suggestions. That cold beer at the pub is going to be the best one you've ever had!
I’m super excited to hike this one again – it’s an absolute gem.

See you soon. MJ
THE REST.

b) $10 for this one. Cash or PayID.

We Hike... to the Fahkin' Pool Party of 2025!!!
The Runaway Spoon, 12 Tyron Road, Lindfield, AUWe've hiked... to the Bar.
We've hiked... to the Pub Crawl.
Fahkin' hell we've even hiked... to the Yacht Party.
What else is there? Yup. A POOL PARTY!!!
THE HIKE.
We've explored quite a bit of Middle Harbour, and it just keeps giving. It's surburban yet rugged, and the views are stunning. Love it. The Two Creeks Hike (12kms for this version) was my first proper venture in, and it's a beauty. We'll meet by Lindfield Station (The Runaway Spoon is @ 12 Tyron Road Lindfield. There's a park / green grass right in the middle. See you there), and follow me from there... a neighbourhood walk that leads into some proper hiking with stunning views. It's amazing that we'll be in bustling Sydney yet hardly see other hikers along the way. This hike is full of caves, creeks, National Park, and river views...
We finish at Castle Cove, spin around, then jump on a 7min bus to Chatswood then a super quick train to Turramurra. Bottle shops and food options are there (or Uber Eats), and off we go to Emma's House of Pool & Pleasure. She lives a 6-7min walk from the station.
THE POOL RULES.
The rules? Well, none. Emma likes to get loose like the rest of us - anything goes! But let's say this... we treat Emma's home the same way we treat our National Parks - with 100% respect. We clean up our shit. We don't damage anything. We are kind. We are polite. Every can, bottle, cap, pizza box, etc... it all goes into the bins so our host can rest easy at night without (any to minimal) cleaning up. That's the only rule. Let's keep this somewhere between "Old School" and "Boogie Nights" Pool Party kinda fun...
You MUST join our whatsapp group HERE.
THE DETAILS.
a) Honour your RSVP / be on time. Remember, you're being invited to somebody's house! No shows will be banned from the group.
b) Only hikers can come to the post-hike pool fun. BYO food and booze. All that is in Turramurra town.
c) You don't have to swim. Just come for a back garden party!
d) Relaxed pace while chatting, but let’s move with passion too. Calories out while hiking then pizza / beer calories by the pool in, eh?
e) $15 cash only for this one. Emma already said "I don't want any money" - well, too bad. She's getting $5 from each of us so she can get a cleaner, some champagne, or whatever... well deserved.
f) Be fit. Be healthy. Bring good energy. This hike is more challenging than you think.
g) We should get to Emma's at 2pm. You don't have to stay all afternoon, but for neighbourhood-sanity-sake let's finish up by 6pm.
See you then for another memorable event!
