ANZAC Hike #1: Manly Wormhole, Cave / 10kms Hike - 2UP @ Felon's Manly!
Details
ANZAC Day... a somber day to start yet also one of the best days of the year for a beer(s). Add 2UP. Add a gorgeous hike on the Sydney Coast when the whales have started to run early? YES. Let's do it.
Let's meet at The Deck @ Dee Why Beach (23 The Strand, Dee Why NSW 2099), and off we go. Dee Why Beach and its rockpools are heavenly, then into Dee Why Headland where it's proper hiking with unforgettable views... to Curl Curl Rockpool (perhaps my favourite in Sydney), Curl Curl Beach, the Boardwalk, Freshwater Beach (I quickly write this, but it's all coastal - all 10/10 beautiful), then onto Manly Wormhole...
IF YOU HIT ATTEND FOR THIS HIKE, JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP HERE!!!
Manly Wormhole / Cave... it's a must see if you haven't. 10minute stop there for pics, then Queenscliff Beach, Manly Beach... then time for food, drinks, and 2UP!
Felon's Brewing is our spot! Last year it was so, so nice to have their 2UP arena right on the water - unfortunately I had to leave super early, as we lost Giuseppe Labrador soon after... but this year I'm gonna drink, pull my pants down, and win $$$$ on 2UP!
We'll do a little lotto where two of you gets a FREE $15 bet on 2UP. Win? You get $30. Lose? Well, you lost. $0.
The hike is 10kms... safety wise, there are definitely some rocky bits Dee Why Headland and come out of the (optional) wormhole, but it's a pretty relaxed hike all in all. Be healthy, fun, and full of good energy. Also, big thanks to Felon's Manly - a reso for 40 is usually a $80 per person spend thing, but they are doing me a favour as I do a lot of business there - order as you fancy, no miniumum spend. YES!!!
Rules & Logistics.
a) B1 bus is your friend to Dee Why, then it's a 10min walk to Dee Why Beach. Find it!
b) $10 cash only for this one - you'll need cash for 2UP anyways.
c) Pleeeeeeeaaaase respect our lovely bars / restaurants that say "Yes, we'd love to host your group". Your RSVP "Yes" is your word - keep your word. I put my credit card down for 40 of us.
d) Be on time. Be on time. Be on time...
e) Get in the WHATSAPP GROUP - still amazes me how many people miss this - it's a must. WHATSAPP. The final list of hikers / attendees is in the Whatsapp group. It’s up to you to be in that group, or you’ll sadly be moved into the “NOT GOING” column on MeetUp.
f) Let's have fun, but let's also be respectful and remember what ANZAC Day is all about and how lucky we are to live in amazing Australia.
See you soon. MJ
Manly Cave... Dug up in 1908, the Queenscliff tunnel or the manly wormhole indeed feels like a passage through the unknown. Perhaps that’s why it is called a wormhole. The fishermen who dug it up sure had the best of the Queenscliff rocks and the freshwater beach region connected up easier than clambering up the rocks. On a sunny day, the wormhole towards freshwater offers the best-uninterrupted views of the blue sea.
