WHALES! Kiama to Gerringong, "Aus' Prettiest Street"!!!
Details
Kiama to Gerringong! This is hike is a 10/10 coastal journey. You’ll experience rolling hills like we’re in Scotland… yet Aussie beaches and whales are the ultimate treat. It’s all coast, and it’s all the whales coming north. And if you’re into the insta-glam Tasman Drive, Gerringong has been tagged as “Australia’a Prettiest Street” – we’ll hike there as we finish at a pub just up the road. Also, just learned Kiama Sculptures Event is on - perhaps we have a quick look?!?!

THE HIKE.
As mapped, it’s 15kms from Kiama to Gerringong Station, and the pub is right across the road. Rolling hills. Crazy beautiful farmland. And coastal views 100% of the hike. Dolphins. Sea eagles. Migrating whales north… we did this hike in the summer, and it was a “WOWWWWWW” type journey. Let’s do it again with perfect hiking temperatures. Further... from the New York Times to Bangkok Post, they’ve all reported on it, so we’ll hike / walk “Australia’s Prettiest Street” on our way to the pub… Throughout the 15kms, there are no huge inclines, declines… just some ups / downs over the 15kms – I’ll call it moderate, so let’s keep a good pace.
THE PUB.
Cronin’s Hotel is a historic joint currently owned by a Paramatta Eel rugby player, Mick Cronin. Jack Smith Food’s is their restaurant with your pub classics and some nicer options if you want to go glam with your post-hike feed.
DRIVERS. We need you. We love you. We want you. We can’t do this event without you. Riders will chip in for petrol - of course. Politely, we need 6 of you drivers with 3 hikers / passengers in each car.
Here’s how our travel works:
a) It’s 1hr 15min drive from Sutherland to Gerringong. Let’s meet at Coles Sutherland and depart from there.
b) There’s free parking in Gerringong by the pub – arrive for 1030am for coffee, bathroom.
c) Let’s all jump on the 10:50am Gerringong train to Kiama.
d) Train arrives Kiama at 10:59am. Our hike starts then.
e) We hike back to the car… pub meal, beer, and easy departure back to Sydney. Hiking south is best this time of year – the glare is better for whale watching.
(Note, for those drivers that have passengers that live close by, you don’t have to meet in Sutherland… just arrive in Gerringong for 10:30am)
Big day. Stunning hike. This will be a GREAT Saturday.
Let’s do it! MJ
