Hike @ Shades State Park

For this hike, we'll be making a road trip to a scenic and rugged destination where we'll hike through some rocky streambeds and encounter a steep staircase or two. The plan will be to cover trail 1, 8, part of 7 (part of the trail is currently closed, but that won't affect our route), and 2, totaling a little over five miles in roughly 3 hours. It looks like it should be a good day for a hike, and please be sure to bring along plenty to drink!

Admission to the park is $7 per vehicle.

We'll be meeting at the parking lot in front of Dell Shelter, which is indicated as "B" on the state park map. A map of the park is located here at the Indiana DNR website. Just click the "Property Map (PDF)." After passing the gatehouse, make the first right you come to and then the next left. This will take you down a straight road, and you’ll pass a parking lot on the right and a pond on the left. You’ll take a right to reach the Dell parking lot. Restrooms are nearby.
