Hike @ Whitewater Memorial State Park
Details
The greatness of the fall colors is arriving, and we'll see them at this state park south of Richmond. The hike will mostly be moderate yet will include a steep hill and some lengthy, gradual inclines. We'll plan to cover between 6 and 6.5 miles, and the hike will last about 3.5 hours.
We'll meet in the park at the parking lot for Poplar Grove Shelter. A map of Whitewater Memorial is located at the DNR website (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2962.htm). Select "Property Map" to access the map, and Poplar Grove is designated as Shelterhouse 2 on the map.
We'll start with the first half of trail 12, going east and then south, and make our way past the dam to hike the southern section of trail 14. We'll then hike trail 16 in its entirety and return to cover the rest of trails 14 and 12 and end back at the parking lot.
Admission to the park is $7 per vehicle.
For those interested, we can grab a bite to eat at the Mexican restaurant El Reparo in Liberty, IN, not far from the park (https://www.elreparorestaurant.com).
Car Pool Info: Our car pool will meet along the west side of Bishop Chatard High School on the corner of Kessler Boulevard and Crittenden Avenue at 5885 Crittenden Avenue. The parking along the street is free on Saturdays. We'll meet on the sidewalk at the school entrance near the corner and be leaving at 9am. Note: We do not meet in the parking lot behind the school. We meet on the street alongside the school on Crittenden.
