The What: The Thurston County Glacial Heritage Preserve is on the traditional lands of the Coast Salish people, whose ancestors managed and tended here since time immemorial. Date: May 10th

Time: 10am to 3pm The gate will open at 10:00 and close for new visitors at 2:00, allowing everyone to go through the Activity Stations before they shut down at 3:00. Plan to arrive by 9:45am, so we can be ready to explore when the gates open at 10am.

Bring: Please dress for the weather, wear decent footwear that you can walk up to 5 miles in, bring a walking stick/hiking pole if you need one, be prepared for bug/sun spray, bring enough water and snacks for the time that we will be out there, practice leave no trace, wear comfortable shoes and be ready to take up to a 4+ mile self-guided tour Thurston County’s Glacial Heritage Preserve

  • Learn about the prairie ecosystem, why it’s important, and what’s being done to preserve it on the one-mile Activity trail.
  • IF FOLKS are interested bring your lunch and we can picnic at the event.
  • There may also be a food truck: the Hungarian Kitchen Food Truck. Plan on bringing your own food and refreshments to any of the alternate locations. NOTE: you are responsible for all of your own purchases.
  • PETs are not allowed on this activity. No dogs, unless a service dog.

Directions: Glacial Heritage Preserve

  • From I-5
  • Take exit 95 and head West on Maytown road toward the town of Littlerock.
  • Follow Maytown Rd until you reach the stop sign at Littlerock Elementary. Continue straight onto 128th street and continue straight until ‘T’ at Mima/Waddel Creek rd.
  • At ‘T’ take a left and follow Mima creek road for 2.7 miles.
  • You will see small tractor sign followed shortly by a gravel road and brown sign marking Glacial Heritage preserve.
  • Take a left onto the unmarked gravel road.
  • Follow road around corner and through white gate.
