Day Hike Coon Hill (Eisenhower Tunnel)

It's 8:00 am at the PnR.
Directions to the Park ‘n Ride: Directions to the I-70 and Woolly Mammoth PnR: Going west out I-70 take exit 259. Drive straight at the stop light. Don’t follow the road around to the right. If the light is green, turn to the right. If the light is red, turn to the right after it turns green. After turning, get into the left turn lane. Turn left and go up the hill. We’ll meet under the LL sign at 8:00 am.
Directions to the trailhead: Go west on I-70. As you exit the Eisenhower Tunnel, turn off into the parking lot on the right. There is no exit ramp. Park over on the side away from the road.

The hike: This area at this time of year is usually full of flowers. Especially Columbine. The first 3/4 mile is gradually uphill to a switchback. At that point you can go straight and continue to climb up onto the ridge in front of you. Or you can cut back to the right and continue up that trail to the top of the Loveland ski lifts on top of that ridge.
After this hike there is a very good Bar BQ place in Idaho Springs where we can eat
There are no restrooms at the trailhead.
Well behaved dogs are allowed. No Pitbulls.
