Fall color backpacking trip in the Lost Creek Wilderness Area
Details
The information as of now.
Directions to the trailhead. Take 285 SW out of Denver. In Bailey turn left onto Rt.68. In about 5 miles you'll come to a fork in the road. Go right onto Rt. 543 (Wellington Lake Road). In about 2 miles you will reach the trailhead. The Colorado Trail crosses here. Turn into the parking lot on the right. Start hiking up the road. You will soon come to a small clearing. The Rolling Creek Trail takes off to the left there. Stay on the Colorado Trail. We will hike up that trail about 7-8 miles and camp. We won't go past the intersection with the Brookside-McCurdy Trail.
The hike: We will do a loop of The Rolling Creek Trail, The Wigwam Trail, The Brookside McCurdy Trail and the Colorado Trail (Part of section 4). My book rates this loop as easy to moderate. I haven't decided yet which way we will go. The loop is 22 miles. Elevation is from 8,400-10,500.
