Join us for an opportunity to meet new people while getting outdoors. Kids are welcome. Fido too on his/her leash where allowed. On weekends we usually stick fairly close to Denver with hikes offering great Colorado scenery and views. You will sometimes get to see big horn sheep (like on the Quandary climb), hawks soaring overhead (like from dinosaur Ridge) , wildflowers in the spring, and songbirds in the forest. We usually stop off for lunch on the way home.
Folks it is winter now. And we are in Colorado. Please come to your outing prepared. Depending on the outing you may need snowshoes or spikes and poles. Dress in layers and try to stay away from anything cotton. And as we get further into winter be prepared to attach your snowshoes to your pack.
We have different hikes. We do from easy to moderate hikes in the foothills with 300 to 600 feet elevation gain to more challenging hikes higher up in the mountains. Decent trail shoes or boots are recommended along with some extra clothing, a snack and some water.
We also mix in more advanced trips on a regular basis like backpacking the Grand Canyon, other National Parks and Wilderness Areas in Colorado and other states.
Please assess each the outing based on your abilities, gear and physical conditioning. Same for the kids if they plan to come along. Join the group and we'll email you the hike details, directions to the park-n-ride we're using and directions to the trailhead each week so you can make your plans.

UPDATED Camp and hike. Canyonlands Nat. Park
Location not specified yetWe have the Dutch Oven group campsite in the Needles District of the Canyonlands Nat. Park. It's a tent campsite. But you can sleep in your vehicle I believe. We have that campsite through Tuesday night, the 6th. We have to leave on Wed. the 7th.
There is a restroom with sinks and flush toilets close by and showers for a fee at the Needles Outpost just outside the park.

Moab with lots of services is about an hour away. And the Island in the Sky part of the Canyonlands Park and Arches Nat. Park are both within an hour drive.
Arches National Park (U.S. National Park Service)I'm going over there early. On Thursday Oct, 1. I'll be in a commercial campground until Friday. On Friday I'm going to backpack into Murphy Point in the Island of the Sky District of the Park. It's an easy overnight backpack. Less than 4 miles roundtrip.
On Saturday I'll hike back out and drive over to our campsite we have reserved in the Needles District on Saturday, Oct. 3rd.If you want to join me over there before we occupy our campsite in the Needles District on Saturday, Oct the 3rd, let me know. I have spots open for 3 more to backpack into Murphy Point on Friday.

Backpack and/or just camp in Sand Dunes National Park.

We are going to have a drive-in campsite down there in the Oasis campground. It's a commercial campground on the right just before you enter the Park. Great Sand Dunes Oasis. The cost is $33/night for two people. $3 for each additional person. So your cost will depend on how many people stay in the Oasis campsite after the backpackers leave there on Friday morning. Your $15 deposit pays for the first two nights in the Oasis Campground.For people wanting to backpack, we have a back-country site reserved for the nights of the 16th and 17th. We will come back out and drive home on Sunday the 18th. Our site is Indian Grove. It's one of the best back-country sites I have ever stayed in. We stayed there two years ago. It's right off of the dunes and beside a strong creek. There is even a privy there. The hike to the campsite is just over 4 miles. But it is sandy.
I'm setting the limit at 12 persons. But we can only have 5 backpackers. The rest will be staying in the Oasis Campground.
