Denver REI — Weak Layer Development and Avalanche Conditions

Here is another that I believe EVERYONE should attend. Avalanche safety and it is put on by the CAIC.

Colorado's snowpack is notorious for having lots of weak layers conducive to producing avalanches. The good news is that these weak layers can be anticipated and observed with a basic understanding of how they form. Come hear forecasters from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center discuss the factors that promote weak layer development and how weak layers play a major role in the types of avalanches we see in Colorado. They will also teach on how you might manage terrain in the field to avoid dangerous weak layers.
