New Meetup: In Search of Waterfalls on Mt. Tam - 15 miles, brisk pace

Announcing a new Meetup for Marin and Sonoma Distance Hikers!

What: In Search of Waterfalls on Mt. Tam - 15 miles, brisk pace

When: Saturday, January 23,[masked]:00 AM

Rocksprings Parking Lot Mt. Tam
Ridgecrest Blvd Mt. Tam State Park
Stinson Beach, CA 94970

After a week of rain, all of the creeks on Mt. Tam should be at their best.
This hike will check out my favorites: Cataract, Steep Ravine and Bootjack.
The hike is 15 miles, and will have about 5000' of climbing.
I want to keep the group together and be back at a reasonable hour, so be prepared for an average walking pace of 2.5 mph. That will give us time for breaks, and a cushion to make sure we are back before dark.
The route starts at Rock Springs, goes down the Cataract Trail to Alpine lake, and back up Cataract to Laurel Dell. (We'll get to see the falls twice!) From there we'll go down Willow Camp to Stinson Beach for lunch. After lunch we'll take the Dipsea and Steep Ravine Trails to Pan Toll, go down Staplevelt and Ben Johnson to Muir Woods. From Muir Woods we'll return via Bootjack to the Mountain Theater.
Please come prepared. Bring proper footwear, an extra layer (or two) of clothes, rain gear, food and water. Bring $$ if you want to buy snacks at the store at Stinson Beach.
As always, all are welcome, but please be prepared for the pace, distance and lots of climbing (3 long climbs).
The current forecast is for dry skies, but we'll go rain or shine. If it's raining, we may alter the route to stay under tree cover, and shorten the distance.
