Wednesday Burro Hike - HIKE CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS

UNFORTUNATELY, AS THIS ROUTE IS A WETLANDS, ALONG A CREEK, GROUND CONDITIONS WILL BE TOO MUDDY OR PERHAPS FLOODED FOR US TO ENJOY HIKING THERE AT THIS TIME :(

I'LL THINK ON A SUBSITUTE LOCAL HIKE THAT MIGHT WORK FOR US, BUT MAY END UP CANCELLING HIKE ALTOGETHER DUE TO ALL THE RAIN. GREAT FOR OUR REGION, JUST NOT FOR HIKING!

Cel & Liz have very generously offered to lead the Group on this hike, which will be their last with the Burros before they move to Spain! Here's their description:

This is a 4.5-5-mile total distance hike, the trail being along the edge of the East Fork of the Jemez River. Some on established trail & some off trail in nearby grasslands & forest. Expect some muddy spots, stream crossings, & scrambling over downed trees. Elevation gain approximately 350 ft.

Each vehicle will need a National Park Pass or a $25 entry fee. Due to limited TH parking, maximum of 4 cars for us all.

Weather forecast predicts afternoon showers, so come prepared.

RT drive time 2 1/2 hours.

Burro Hikes are for experienced hikers, most of our hikes are moderate in difficulty (by our standards), usually on designated trails, usually 4-6 miles in distance unless otherwise specified.

Newcomers are welcome on all my hikes; I ask that newcomers please test your fitness for my Group by timing yourself hiking up and down Atalaya, which you should be able to do comfortably in 3 hours or less (from Wilderness Gate or staircase). We meet at the DeVargas Mall, in the back lot, behind the stores; park in a lane near the bowling alley, but not right up against the mall wall. We carpool to all THs. Please offer your driver $7 to cover gas expense for this hike. We like to leave promptly so if you're running just a few minutes late, text me, & we'll wait up to 5 minutes for you.
