Coastal hike: Washburne to Heceta Head, Hobbit Trail beach return

Details

By popular request... I've only been a member of this group a short while, but when conversing with group members, this hike has come up again and again as a favorite.

This is a coastal hike and will take all day. The round-trip hike is long and steep in sections, but is a beautiful hike through coastal forests as well as a walk along the beach.

What to Bring:
Bring water, wet weather gear, warm clothes, good shoes/boots, and food for lunch (we'll stop for lunch at Heceta Head).

Travel Details:
We'll meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 at the Target parking lot on West 11th (4575 W 11th Ave, Eugene, OR). From there, we'll carpool to Carl Washburne State Park. Carpools will leave Eugene shortly after 9 A.M. and the hike will begin from Washburne State Park around 10:30 A.M. (approx).

Fees:
There appears to be no day-use fee for Washburne State Park. If carpooling, please be prepared to help out with gas money.

Total hiking: 6.6 miles
Elevation gain: 960 ft
Drive (one way): Approx 1 hr 30 min; 75 miles
