We love this hike!! This trail descends about 400 ft, then winds through a narrow, tree-shrouded canyon that crisscrosses Walnut Creek in several places. The creek has water year-round and did not dry out during the 5-year drought. Where the creek crosses the trail, it is only ankle deep with stepping stones to cross it, so you don’t have to get your shoes wet. The hike ends at a picnic area where we will take a break. Bring whatever snacks you would like to have. Then we will hike back to our cars. This hike is only 6 miles round-trip and should take only 3 hours or so.
Dogs are welcome. This hike is a great place to hike your dog during the warm weather because of all the shade and the opportunity for your dog to cool himself by splashing in the creek. Many people let their dogs hike off-leash on this trail.
After the hike, we will all go out to lunch. There are many places to choose from. I will ask everyone what they are in the mood for and that’s how we will choose!
Click on the red pin on the map and it will take you directly to the parking lot. The parking lot is small, so I am limiting the attendance to 10 cars. If you want to bring friends, make sure that you carpool. Parking is free. Extra parking is on Paseo Aldeano.
