Welcome to our Hiking and Helping the Environment Meetup Group! Our community of birdwatchers, outdoor lovers, and environmental activists come together to explore the great outdoors while also giving back to our local environment. From hiking, biking, camping, and kayaking to volunteering for environmental education and activism, we strive to create a collaborative and cooperative space where we can make a positive impact on our planet. Hike Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington CT
Metacomet trailhead Rt 6, Farmington, 144 Colt Highway,, Farmington, CT, US
Experienced backpacker and hiker Jan Gatzuras will lead this approximately 1.5 hour, 2.6 mile hike, which begins with a steep ascent, ends with a steep desent, and takes us along a ridgeline walk in between. We'll see great views from Rattlesnake cliffs and Will Warren’s Den. The view is panoramic from the cliffs! This time of year we recommend sturdy hikiing shoes with microspikes / carmpons, dress in layers and bring extra clothes in your pack along with water and snacks. If conditions are deep snow or too icy for this steep hike, we have a plan B, which is to hike Shade Swamp. I will post here the day prior if we are moving to plan B. Meet at the Metacomet Trail parking area along Route 6 / Colt Highway in Farmington, CT.
