As professional mountain guides in Ireland and the UK, we organise days and weekends guided off trails hikes in the island of Ireland.
In addition to this, as course providers for mountaineering Ireland and the UK, we run mountain skills 1 and 2 which is a nationally accredited course. The aim of this course is to help you learn the skills you need to become a competent navigator in the mountains of Ireland and beyond by day, night and bad weather conditions.
Our hikes and courses are not only educative but enjoyable too.
You will learn about the area, the fauna and the historical interests of the area visited.

Ever wanted to learn the skills you need to improve your hiking experience in the Irish mountains, the UK, the Alps or beyond !
Mountain Skills is the course for you.
During those 2 days, You will learn how to hike safely and responsibly by any kind of weather conditions during day or night time in a mountain environment.Each course is €130/person,
€100 for groups up to 6 people, under 18s and students.
The course includes:
- 2 full days course
- Breakfast and tea breaks
- full course notes
- maps and compass provided (maps and compass for sale too)
- route maps for you to practice.
Mountain Skills 1 and 2 is a nationally accredited course by the Mountain Training Board of Ireland and is delivered in an upland environment.
At the end of this course, you will have taken a big step forward in developing your own self-confidence and enjoyment in hiking in the Irish mountain wilderness, the UK and the rest of the world pretty much!
Some hiking experience is essential before joining the scheme however, you don’t need to be an expert.

Guided Hike with navigations tips and MS refresher in the Wicklow Mountains.
Walking in the Wicklow Mountains with a qualified mountain leader and course director with Mountaineering Ireland is a great way to step out of your comfort zone, to discover another side of the Wicklow mountains with its wildlife and biodiversity, where the spectacular views of the lowland surroundings can be enjoyed from a summit.
As part of the hike, I’ll introduce some orienteering and navigation skills;
map reading, mountain hazards, how to set and read a map, equipment, an introduction to compass and how to be safe in the mountains in any weather conditions in poor visibility or/and at night.
In addition to this, I’ll give you a guided Tour of the area which will include:
Ireland during the Ice Age and the geology, fauna and flora
Our hikes are not only enjoyable but, educative too.
Meeting and pin location provided upon booking.
Duration: 4h30 included breaks
Grade: easy to moderate
What gear do I need!
Wear comfortable clothing; leggings, tracksuit bottoms, breathable T-Shirt and fleece & an extra warm layer. Be ready for the rain and pack a rain jacket and rain trousers. A hat and gloves to keep you safe from the wind. Wear good sturdy hiking boots or with woolly or synthetic socks. Have a backpack with water (minimum 1.5 litres, sandwiches and snacks, coffee, or tea. There is nothing more rewarding than a nice cup of coffee or tea drunk on top of the mountain. Don’t forget to bring first aid kit with plaster and bandages, personal medicine, inhaler, epipen etc.
A map and a compass can be provided for the day. Have your phone fully charged too.
