U.S. Forest Service Adopt-a-Trail Workday: Silver Flat/Silver Lake

Details

This year, we are once again working with the U.S. Forest Service and adopting the Silver Lake trail in American Fork Canyon. Silver Lake is one of my favorite trails in Utah and this is our way of giving back to the trails across the Wasatch that we use every week. Our work includes litter pick up, blocking trail short cutes, using plaskis and mcleods to smooth the trail from runoff and build drainages, cutting down trees across the trail, and breaking up illegal fire pits.

For out first workday of the year, we will meet at the park-n-ride at the base of American Fork Canyon at 9:15 on Saturday, June 28 and carpool up to Silver Flat Reservoir. From there, we will do work both around the reservoir area and on the trail. Thus, this event is suitable for people of all hiking abilities, as strong hikers can work on the trail and those who just enjoy a walk in nature can do work around the reservoir. We will work till around 1 p.m. or 1:30 p.m., before heading back down to the carpool area. If you are interested in joining but need to leave early, let me know and we can see about having you drive up yourself depending on how many people have signed up or designating a carpool car to leave at noon rather than 1/1:30 (parking can be a challenge and we only have a few permits, thus the preference for carpooling).

Let's make a difference on this very special and beautiful trail right in our backyards.
