Utah High Point Series Part 14: American Fork Twin Peaks (Salt Lake County)

Details
This hike is part of an ongoing series to visit the high point in each of the 29 counties in Utah. For the 14th part of this series, on Saturday, August 2, we will hike Salt Lake County's high point, which is American Fork Twin Peaks on the top of the Snowbird property in Little Cottonwood Canyon. We will do an out-and-back route using the Gad Valley to Red Stack and then across to the Twin Peaks. The route covers 10.3 miles and close to 4100 ft of elevation gain. It also involves a sustained period of class 3 scrambling (better than class 4 coming up from or going down the tram side). Please be prepared to hike the non-scrambling portions of the hike in 30-minute miles on uphill section, 20 to 25 minute miles on downhill sections, and then 45 minute miles on scrambling section. Please note, if the weather looks questionable for Saturday, August 2, we may substitute in a different area high point or, more likely switch the event to Sunday, August 3.
