Notes:

  • The rain is here to stay, so I'm calling it and changing this to Saturday (tomorrow) -- same time. I'll also schedule a repeat in a couple months.
  • Rescheduling (again) from 1/31 due to forecast of snow and frigid temps.
  • Rescheduling from 12/23 due to low expected attendance.

Overview
A peaceful, pre-holiday macro-focused walk through Forest Hill Park. We’ll slow down and explore moss, fungi, bark textures, seed pods, and late-season color. Warm temps and soft light make this a great day for close-up work.

What to Expect

  • Gentle nature walk with frequent stops for macro subjects
  • About 1.5-2 miles
  • Discussion and practice of macro techniques, lighting/contrast, and line + pattern.

What to Bring

  • Any kind of camera (or smart phone with a good camera)
  • Note: drones are also allowed in this park and the conditions appear calm, so feel free to bring yours.
  • Macro lens OR short telephoto for close-ups (optional)
  • Optional: small LED light, kneepad, reflector, lightweight tripod or monopod
  • Water, snack + layers

Where to Meet
Forest Hill Park – Main parking lot (see map)

Difficulty
Moderate due to uneven natural surfaces.

Dogs
Welcome and must be leashed at all times.

Notes
Great event for anyone wanting a calm, mindful outdoor break in mid-winter.
